Updating Power BI Templates

When a new template is released for a Power BI report, you will receive an email from CEO Juice with the link to download the updated template. Follow the steps below to update your Power BI reports with the updated template.

This is not required if you opted to have CEOJuice manage your Power BI at setup time, reach out directly to help@ceojuice.com with any questions on receiving a new template.

Server Steps

Steps one through four are completed on the server where Power BI Desktop is installed.

Step One: Verify the current version of Power BI Desktop is installed on the server.

Step Two: Download the new template from the CEO Juice website.

**If you are using the SQL Power BI templates, you'll need to email help@ceojuice.com for the template as it will not be available for you to download from the website.

1. Click on the link in the new revision notification email to download the template.

2. The download will open in Power BI Desktop, the report will automatically start refreshing. You can click on the cancel button as it is quicker to refresh the report from the workspace.

**You may also see a popup to connect the data source on the report using the ODBC connector, you can click cancel on this as well as the report will be refreshed in the workspace.

Step Three: Save the new template as a .pbix file in the folder on the server where the CEO Juice Power BI reports are kept.

1. Go to the File menu and select the Save as option.

2. Click on the Browse this device option to browse to the folder where you have saved the Power BI reports.

3. Save the file with the EXACT SAME NAME as the previous version of the report. 

4. Be sure to save the file as the .pbix file type.

5. You'll get a popup message asking if you want to replace the file, click yes.

Step Four: Publish the new report to the workspace.

1. Click on the Publish button.

2. Select the CEO Juice workspace.

3. Once the report is published, you'll get a notification of success.

You can now close Power BI Desktop, no need to save the file again when prompted.

Workspace Steps

Workspace Steps

The remaining steps will be completed from within the CEO Juice workspace. You will need to be logged into Power BI in a browser window and authenticated with the O365 credentials for the user that adminsters the Power BI reports.

Step Five: Refresh the report in the workspace.

1. Hover on the Semantic model for the updated report and click on the circle arrow to refresh the report.

Step Six: Check that the semantic model settings have the proper connection and schedule settings.

1. Click on the three dots icon on the semantic model to show the options for the report.

2. Click on Settings.

3. Click on Gateway and Cloud Connections to verify that the data source is still set as the CEO Juice Data Source.

4. In the Schedules refresh section, verify that the report is still set to refresh.

Step Seven: Update the Power BI app.

1. From the workspace, click on the Update app button.

2. In the lower right corner, click on Update App.
